Are you a candidate for the upcoming municipal and/or regional elections next spring? Green Sisu offers you the opportunity to become an endorsed internationally-minded candidate. We will support you in campaign brochures, on Green Sisu’s website, and through our social media channels. As a Green Sisu candidate, you will also gain visibility through Green Sisu campaign events. Most importantly, you will be included in the Green Sisu peer-support network of candidates with international backgrounds.
Green Sisu does not nominate candidates directly; local Green associations or regional Green organisations handle this process.
Green Sisu Candidate Benefits
- Candidate Gallery: Green Sisu candidates are included in an online gallery on the Green Sisu website, which will be used to promote candidates to international voters.
- Peer-Support Network: Green Sisu facilitates a peer-support group dedicated to candidates with international backgrounds and their team members. This is the place to ask questions, get ideas, and meet like-minded people.
- Simple Website: Green Sisu volunteers offer to set up and host a simple static website (no blog) for free for willing Green Sisu candidates to share their campaign information and connect with voters. Please note that the candidates must purchase and pay for their domain names.
- Green Sisu Campaign Events: Green Sisu candidates are invited to participate in campaign events (both in-person events across various cities and virtual events online) organised by Green Sisu volunteers, providing additional visibility and engagement opportunities with potential voters.
Green Sisu Candidate Criteria
To become a Green Sisu candidate, you must first be selected as a municipal or regional candidate by your local Green association or regional Green organisation. In addition, you must have paid the membership fee for the Green Sisu association and agree to these candidate criteria.
A candidate representing Green Sisu is also a candidate of the Green Party and is expected to promote the core principles of the Greens in their political work. The Green Party is a feminist and anti-racist party that opposes all forms of discrimination. Everyone has the right to a free life and equal opportunities, regardless of personal characteristics. This explicitly means that the candidates shall not discriminate against any groups or individuals, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, age, disability, or any other characteristic.
In line with Green Sisu’s principles, candidates are expected to work to lower the language barrier in political engagement. This means, for example, campaigning in languages beyond Finnish and Swedish and welcoming international people to support groups.
An application to become a Green Sisu candidate is approved by the Green Sisu Board. The Board may revoke the status of a Green Sisu candidate if the person, despite a written warning, continues to violate these principles. However, the candidate must always be allowed to be heard before their status is revoked.
